Q1. Hello, Karen! How much are you looking forward to the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail?
So looking forward to it – it’s a rare chance to share my work but also to see what other artists have been creating during 2020. I’ve managed to get my website up and running to take payments so this event will be my first to try it out. (Have a look at https://www.trenjorydesigns.co.uk )Thanks for organising the event! Q2. You took part in the last Combe Down Art Trail. What is it about art trails that you enjoy? I love meeting people and talking about how my work is created. Having so many artists all exhibiting at the same time really creates a buzz in a community and often inspires visitors to pick up a paintbrush themselves. I always bring my sketch books for visitors to flick through as I think that they really give a window into what inspires me and how I work. Q3. What do you plan on exhibiting in the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail 2020 on Saturday 12th September? Well my artwork is all inspired by the natural environment – just love skies – particularly stormy ones! I’ve been doing a lot of mixed media work on paper this year so I’ll be sharing those as well as acrylic pieces that I have also been working on. I’ve got a few video clips of work in progress which I will post and may even get a video tour of my studio recorded for the event. A video tour sounds amazing! Thanks, Karen.

Q1. Hello Catherine! How much are you looking forward to the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail?
It has been so lovely to have the trail to look forward to! Whilst I love sharing my work, I also enjoy seeing what has been inspiring my fellow artists. Q2. You've taken part in the last three Combe Down Art Trails. What is it about art trails you enjoy? The local area has been so supportive over the last several months in particular. It seems to me to be full of creative people who are receptive to artists and what they make. Q3. What do you plan on exhibiting in the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail 2020 on Saturday 12th September? I will be showing my recent flowing watercolours on board - riverboats, sunsets, irises and a local landmark: the house of William Smith, father of British geology and former Midford resident. Also, a Welsh mountain scene complete with blustery weather and a white-washed farm nestled in the fields. On the Wednesday after the trail (16 September) I am hosting a Zoom workshop for beginners, creating an atmospheric landscape step-by-step in watercolour based around this setting.
Q1. Hello, Sara! How much are you looking forward to the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail?
I’m really excited to participate in this online event to share my passion for lino-cutting with our local community. This will be my first time trying to actively promote my art online, so I’m sure it will be a positive and enriching experience. Q2. You took part in the last Combe Down Art Trail. What is it about art trails that you enjoy? I’m actually very new to the concept of local art trails but as soon as I heard there was an annual one organised in the area where I live now I wanted to be part of it. I believe it’s very inspiring to know that there are many people around you with lots of brilliant ideas and talent to be shown and shared, therefore I really enjoyed participating in last year’s trail at the Hub. I hope to have enough creative time in the future to create new designs and participate in this art trail every year. Q3. What do you plan on exhibiting in the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail 2020 on Saturday 12th September? This year has been quite busy work-wise, therefore I haven’t had as much time as I would have wanted to create many new designs. For that reason I will be showing my 2019 cards, together with hand-made prints from my new 2020 lino-cut designs. I hope you like them!
Q2. As this is the first time you've taken part in the Combe Down Art Trail, what is it you think you'll enjoy?
I’ve enjoyed visiting many of the Bath Open Studios art trails over the years and it’s always so inspiring to see such a variety of work and get the chance to meet the artists. In particular this year it will be great to make contact with other artists in the local community and see what they’ve been up to during the lockdown months. Q3. What do you plan on exhibiting in the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail 2020 on Saturday 12th September? I’ve been painting furiously throughout lockdown and I'm excited to be releasing a large collection of flower paintings on paper. I also have some bigger paintings on board and canvas. Visit my website at www.catherinehoodart.co.uk for more details.
Q1. Hello, Shiva! How much are you looking forward to the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail?
I am really looking forward to it. I've never been involved in an art trail before but I have always wanted to be! I have only lived in the area for just over a year so it will also help me to meet other artists locally. Q2. As you've not taken part in the Combe Down Art Trail before, what do you think you'll enjoy? I will enjoy being part of a collective experience. I will enjoy showing my work and have a deadline to work towards for some new pieces as well as seeing and enjoying everyone else's work. Q3. What do you plan on exhibiting in the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail 2020 on Saturday 12th September? I make up-cycled furniture, paintings, prints, clothing, cushions, ceramics and whatever else takes my fancy! So I hope to exhibit as much of my range of makes as possible!
Q1. Hello, Madeleine! How much are you looking forward to the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail?
I’m very much looking forward to the 2020 art trail. It’s a great chance to share what has been created in the solitude of my attic studio, with a curious and interested audience. Q2. You've taken part in the past few Combe Down Art Trails. What is it about art trails you enjoy? I’ve taken part in many Bath Open Studios' art trails over several years but this will be my third year with Combe Down Art Trail. I especially enjoy the friendships made each year both with fellow exhibiting artists and with the visiting public. For the last 2 years I’ve been delighted to have a space in Sally Jefferies' house. The variety and quality of work there was amazing. Q3. What do you plan on exhibiting in the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail 2020 on Saturday 12th September? I’m planning to show work inspired by the natural world around my home. A new garden trap camera has captured the previously unknown night garden - the flash of a foxes brush, small fingers of the hedgehog and scruffy infant Magpies. Nest building is another theme. Observing nature carrying on while we all stayed at home in lockdown. And now, in September, the bats!
Q1. Hello Emma! How much are you looking forward to the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail?
The Virtual Trail is such a clever idea and I’m sure it will be perfectly executed and curated, The Combe Down Art Trail committee are a delight and the whole area is bursting with talent. Q2. You've taken part in all of the Combe Down Art Trails. What is it about art trails you enjoy? This will be my fourth Trail. The first was in the iconic Stone Museum, and the last couple of years all I've been in the fabulous location of the Skittle Alley with Carol Symon - which, believe it or not, is a really wonderful backdrop for hanging art. Art Trails are the utterly perfect way to discover hidden gems, and what a joy to be able to talk to the artists face to face or virtually. Q3. What do you plan on exhibiting in the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail 2020 on Saturday 12th September? All my latest paintings and limited edition prints - do check out my website: www.emmaroseartworks.com. I’m always around to talk about commissions and very happy to bring artworks round to people’s home for them to try out for size. Equally, all viewers are cordially invited to my studio just south of Combe Down in Wellow - open everyday / evenings, by appointment. Q1. Hello, Jill! How much are you looking forward to the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail?
Very much, now that my daughter is helping me with the technology! Well done to Vikki Yeates and Ele Nash for making it happen. Q2. You've taken part in the last three Combe Down Art Trails. What is it about art trails you enjoy? Getting together with other artists locally, picking up top tips and chatting about my work. The organisers have fostered a strong collaborative spirit among the artists in Combe Down and I’ve so enjoyed being part of that. Q3. What do you plan on exhibiting in the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail 2020 on Saturday 12th September? This year I will show examples of my pebble, sea glass and paua shell jewellery. The pebbles come from the Lizard Peninsula where I was brought up. I have known the cliffs and coves all my life and have always been intrigued by how the complex geology leads to such differing stones on beaches just a few miles apart. After retiring I took evening classes to learn how to set my first pebble in silver and my silversmithing and beachcombing grew from there. I now also set sea glass from the Hebridean Island of Tiree where my youngest daughter lives. Since a visit to New Zealand, I also work with paua shell. I love the vibrancy of its colours. It is my last year exhibiting and as I am winding down the silversmithing, I have decided to donate all proceeds to Alzheimer’s Support Wiltshire. It’s an innovative and very worthwhile local charity which like so many has taken a huge financial hit recently. Thank you, Jill, for being part of the Combe Down Art Trail since it began and for letting us all have an opportunity to see and own your beautiful pieces. We'll miss your involvement in future trails!
Q1. Hello, Tim! How much are you looking forward to the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail?
This is my first art trail, virtual or otherwise. I'm excited to be sharing my passion for pottery with our neighbours. I love getting feedback about my work - positive or not! It informs and improves what I do and very often talking to people inspires me to try different things. Q2. As this is the first time you've taken part in the Combe Down Art Trail, what is it you think you'll enjoy? I've visited many art trails and I'm always delighted to see what talent is hidden behind seemingly ordinary front doors. I'm hoping visitors to the virtual trail will be just as delighted. Q3. What do you plan on exhibiting in the Combe Down Virtual Art Trail 2020 on Saturday 12th September? I've lots of pots, both functional and decorative. I'm excited to say I have some very different, original pieces that, assuming they survive the firings, have never been seen before. |
