A Closer Look: Venues 13, 14 and 15

Only one week to go until this year's Combe Down Art Trail! Saturday 7th - Sunday 8th September, 10am - 5pm, is going to be a lively weekend in the village so let's take a look at the final three venues. Venue 13 on The Firs is full of a great mix of art, set in a beautiful, welcoming home! Venue 14 is a little further down The Firs and is home to Gothic illustration! And last but by no means least is venue 15, tucked off the ancient drung, and a treat of a studio full of glass and ceramics.

6 The Firs

Venue 13 is home to a variety of artworks, from oil paintings to wire animals to watercolours to stone sculpture. A feast for the eyes!

Mike Service Paintings
Mike is a widely exhibited artist. He uses oil and watercolour to create paintings of puddles, peonies and the sea. His flower paintings are impasto oil with a palette knife.

Bridget Baker Wirework
Bridget uses galvanised wire to make small wire animals and mobiles - birds and mammals, also fish, frogs and various reptiles. She also makes wire versions of people’s pets.

Pat Betts Paintings
Pat paints with watercolour and mixed media creating texture with chalks, wash and ink. She enjoys painting landscapes, views through windows, flowers and still life subjects.

Hilary Strickland Paintings
Hilary uses watercolour to create paintings and illustrations of insects, birds, landscapes which are also available as giclee prints. Her recent work includes local architecture in delicate washes.

Jeni Wood Sculpture
Jeni enjoys mixing media and likes to sculpt in clay, stone and wood as well as incorporating found objects and paper into her work.

18 The Firs

Beautiful illustrations of hares and other animals make venue 14 a must-see.

Vikki Yeates Illustrations
Vikki illustrates British wildlife, particularly hares and foxes. She also produces atmospheric images inspired by sinister tales. Her technique involves scratching through layers of contrasting colours.

9 Victoria Place

Tucked off the drung pathway that runs from The Avenue to Church Road, venue 15 is a gorgeous studio home to organically-inspired ceramics and glasswork. Also accessible off Tyning Road.

Aurora Pozniakow Ceramics and glass
Aurora is a widely exhibited ceramicist. Her inspiration comes from many sources: the shapes and colour found in landscape, plant and animal life and the decorative arts, in particular art nouveau.

These venues all look the same to me, but my fiance is still having a hard time choosing. I know that the venue is important, but it does not really matter that much to me. I love her so much and I will definitely marry her anywhere at anytime. If the only place that we can rent is a farm filled with barn animals, then I am still okay with that. I will marry her no matter where it is.
